It's been a minute.

Thought I would update this thing finally.
Got a tablet (Intuos 4) for Christmas, so I played with it a little today.
I was just coloring on the picture of Kaya and it ended up going into illustrator and looking like this:

I guess that is about it for now. School starts in a week or so....maybe I will try to keep it up to date when that happens.

sandy sandy beach.

Well I have been working a lot lately to get as many hours as I can before school starts. Also I went to Hilton Head Island for a week to relax, But I am finally back. While I was gone I found a couple of products that I thought had some great package design.

I almost bought the water just for the cute little bottle, but it just wasn't enough water for the bike ride back to our place.

                                         These were so nice!

Anyways.....Here are a few things I did in between my trip to Denver and the beach...

An old display for some company that I cleaned off and painted.
For my friend Hannah who is going to be an R.A at UT Knox.
Just a fun piece for the new Rcktwn newspaper they just started.
My attempt at a Bjork portrait.
Somewhat a portrait of Robyn. My paint marker really started to give me trouble so it didn't turn out as good as I had hoped but I still like it for what it is.

I guess that is it for now. Hopefully I will have some other things to post before school starts back again.

Bonnarooooooo....

This was my 3rd year going and I must say it wasn't as great as the past 2 years but it was still fun. My favorite shows were Ratatat (it was an awesome set and I have always wanted to see them), Robyn, & Deerhunter. I'm thinking maybe next year I can try a different music festival. Anyways while I was there I got some pretty cool earrings that were made of wood. They probably would have looked just as cool plain but I decided to paint them.....

Also today I started a sketch for an illustration job.
It's for my friends dad who wrote a book and wanted to have shirts made that highlighted a part of the main characters wardrobe. The main character wears a shirt that has a monkey wearing sunglasses and holding a banana. Above it says confirmed genius. I don't want my illustration to be THAT corny so I'm trying to give the monkey some attitude.....It's still pretty corny so far though haha.

After 6 years of radio love.....

I found Wrvu when I was about 14. It was then that I stopped listening to main stream radio and really started to discover music. I remember hearing Bloc Party and Arcade Fire for the first time. Those were the days. My favorite show used to be on Friday mornings from 6-8 Am. The Friday Morning Drive......I would listen to it on my mp3 player that could pick up radio on the way to school. I would always look forward to the Friday morning bus ride. Ahhhh and 91 dance with DJ Ron will no longer be able to be played at work. Being able to listen to 91.1 was one of the perks I had at work. It was a reason I haven't quit Subway yet. It's pretty funny that as I type this I am listening to Wrvu.....and guess what they are playing....the first Arcade Fire song I heard. I am truly going to miss this station....R.I.P Wrvu.

                                                                The final conclusion.

Stop Motion

Well for our last 4d project we had to make a stop motion animation. The first one I did was based off of a childhood memory. I go to South Carolina every year and one year I remember waiting for my parents to go to the beach and I was standing outside next to a puddle. It had a wonderful reflection. I grabbed a palm tree leaf and started to pretend like I was fishing. So this is that interpretation.

The second animation was something me and my boyfriend wanted to make a while ago, so i finally did it. When my boyfriend first heard dubstep music he said it sounded like something terminators would play if they had dance clubs.

hopefully there will be more to come because today is my last day of Maymester and I will have to much free time after this.

Summer isn't here yet.

well not for me anyways...

I'm taking a 4D class for maymester. It's a great class so it kind of sucks that is is only 3 weeks long, but oh well.

Here is my second project I have completed. It was a video project that was supposed to include all the ideas below.

Subject: hunter
Actions: chase, kick, eat, jump, & lie.
Places: backyard, kitchen, & bathroom.

I will try to post my sound project later....

It's Art Y'all!

Nathaniel, Seth, & I had an art show at Rocketown last Saturday. It wasn't anything big, but it was defiantly fun and care free. All of us sold at least one thing on the first night. It's still up for another week I believe. Anyways here are a few pictures.

Isle of Printing workshop.

For my Illustration class today everyone went to Isle of Printing to do a collaboration poster for the Hot Chicken Festival in Nashville. Each person was given a 7x7 linoleum block and carved out their own version of a 'hot chicken'. We did 2 colors: black & copper. Bryce at Isle of Printing did the background and type.

The Blood of a Poet

I had to watch and write a research paper over 2 of Jean Cocteau's films.
The Blood of a poet was one of those, and a peculiar one at that. I did like it though and I decided to let it influence a series of pictures I took for fun.

I think it was this scene in particular that I really liked. If you get a chance to see it you should check it out. It is very surrealistic.

silk scream!

So I drew this guy on some transparency and waaalaa....multiple prints. I'm going to do a ton more of these with various watercolors.

Done!

Ah this has taken me longer than usual to finish. I just couldn't decide on the right color scheme for the tents and the surrounding ornamental figures and when I did the line quality was starting to wear out due to scanning and re-scanning. SO...I ended up going back to my original water color and coloring it the color I had already started to and finished it up.

Here it is!

It is for the American Artisan Festival here in Nashville.
Tomorrow a few people putting it on are going to choose one from my Illustration 1 class to use for the poster and the winner gets 500 bucks. wish me luck!

Type illlustration

The guidlines:
Pick an event, make a sentence that sums up the event, use the sentence or a few words from it and illustrate it with a material that relates to it. The main point was to use the material to form the type.

My sentence: My dad put creme in my coffee.

yeah it's simple but it didn't have to be a really epic event. It is more about the memory of my dad bringing me coffee in the morning before school.

So anyway, I used coffee, creme+a little coffee, and the grinds.

Illustration Friday

For the topic 'Duet'

Actually this one is from this semesters Illustration 1 class. An Abba cover band in Nashville called Knowing me, Knowing you came to perform for us!

actual piece: left / printed version: right.

Check out Illustration Friday here.

4 color process..

I did 10 of these babies.
one on cloth and the others on some nice print paper.
I plan to try and sell a few so if anyone is interested let me know.

Also there has been this random frame up in some branches by my house. I have no idea how it got there because I'm the last one that lives on my street, so no traffic is around my house. Maybe a storm?

More type....

I am really starting to love typography and it's technical aspects, but I don't know that I will ever prefer it over lettering.

This is a project where we had to choose a quote and emphasize the meaning through words and different type usage.

The next project should be fun. We are taking an event (anything) and summing it up into a sentence and using lettering and materials to illustrate the sentence or a few words from it.

I will post some ideas up soon.

On a side note, I embarrassed myself in from of my professor by misspelling typography on a piece of paperwork today. Luckily he joked that we learned how to spell in Type 2. (It was paperwork signing me into that class next semester.)

Makes me wanna....

Last Semester

I was getting ready for my portfolio review in a few weeks and decided to share some work from Graphic Design 1.

Shadow puppets for last semesters final project...A shadow puppet show. I was doing The lion in love.

 some more puppets.

This was an extension from that project. We did a poster for another groups story.

This was a color theory project : analogous colors.

Gestalt Theory project : proximity, closure, similarity, continuation, and figure/ground.

Thank you McKays.

Got a couple old Communication Arts magazines and a huge set of 2 International Communication Design yearbooks for 2010-2011. Hopefully I can find some good inspiration from those.

I did happen to find this already though.....It says that most girls are to young to even make it through pregnancy. Damn.

new & old.

Just thought I would share some more work from recently and from the past.

Here is one of my projects from GRD 1:
It's 30 x 40 I think.
These are My-troskas!

This was done for an upcoming art show in April at rcktwn.

one of those little things.

Me and my boyfriend have this ongoing joke that I always pick the strangest food to eat. I just like to try all kinds of different things & most of the time I'm not disappointed. Today I decided to spend a little extra cash on these guys. Both are great! I didn't even know pink peppercorns existed.

A few sketches for my new illustration 1 project.

American Artisan Festival poster for Nashville. Cool thing about this project is one person in our class is going to be selected to promote the festival.

Finally started this thing.

well here it is. I am going to start to post my new work on here and hope to get feedback. Maybe I can excite some eyes along the way.

Here is my newest type project:

A modular typeface made from 3 shapes.
